For almost 20 years, 1976-1995, a group of musicians from Baltimore came to St. Hubert’s Isle to play for church services and concerts both here and Blue Mountain Lake. The group began as Tower Brass, and then evolved into Classic Brass.
In 2002 one of the trumpet players asked if he could bring up a group of young people from the Grace Community Church in Columbia, MD. Since Ralph Carmichael’s death in 1995 the island had fallen into disrepair, as there was no longer anyone in permanent residence.
For the next five summers these young people, under the guidance of Gary Alker, took up the slack – clearing the paths from the storm of 1995 when 27 trees fell, replacing the 1880 gazebo, chopping and stacking firewood as well as helping with the Annual Service.
Their help was invaluable and much appreciated, as well as creating many happy memories.
